Blizzard shares more details on its plans for Overwatch 2 – Overwatch

Following the live just finished, Blizzard is sharing more details on its plans for Overwatch 2. Find all the info in the article below.

This week, we made an announcement that’s close to the hearts of the entire team: Overwatch is back.

Overwatch 2 will be released on October 4 as a free-to-play game service, and we’d like to explain what that actually means. With its seasonal updates and its battle pass, Overwatch 2 will regularly welcome new content: heroes, game modes, maps, ornaments and more! We’ll also present you with a roadmap that details our plans for Seasons 1 and 2 through 2023.

A game-service with free access

Offering Overwatch 2 for free access seemed like a natural evolution for both the game and our players. Overwatch has been a social game since the very beginning, and the community is always more fun when its members join forces. With free access, anyone can experience the game, team up with friends, and find people to play with online. Additionally, the game will feature a shared progression system that will allow you to play, progress, and access all of your unlocked content across all available platforms.

Overwatch 2 will not feature chests. In this modernized game-service, you will have the freedom to shape an experience that suits you. You can directly acquire the items of your choice thanks to the battle pass and the new in-game store, which will be regularly updated. And to ensure that the game always has new surprises in store for you, Overwatch 2 will feature seasonal content created by our team every nine weeks.

Roadmap and seasons

The roadmap below details our plans for Seasons 1 and 2, as well as our long-term goals for moving the game forward into 2023 and beyond. Expect to discover a new character every other season, and other elements, such as maps or game modes, during seasons without new heroes or heroines.

Season 1 will see the arrival of Sojourn, Queen of the Junkers and an undisclosed support character, as well as a new 5v5 PvP experience, revamped heroes, new maps and modes, and more. You will also be able to experience reinvented competitive games, with more tools to improve gameplay and a better sense of progression. With the move to 5v5, each player will have more impact on each game and other systems will be put in place to allow you to better analyze your contribution to the match. We will soon have more information to communicate on the redesign of the competitive games!

Season 2 will add a new tank, a new map and a collection of unique models. The story will not be outdone: a new PvE experience will arrive in 2023, and with it, new characters, maps and game modes. We look forward to telling you more when the time comes!

A living game in perpetual evolution

We have always believed that Overwatch should be a fundamentally living game. Its pillars are inclusivity, openness and community. These are the values ‚Äč‚Äčthat drove our change in strategy: we want to bring you new characters, maps and modes on a regular basis, because we want the best for our game and our players.

Overwatch is preparing to welcome more players than ever, and its universe is promised to new and ever more extraordinary horizons!

The future looks bright, and we look forward to discovering it with you.
