Coronavirus: hospitalizations are on the rise in Belgium

EBetween June 3 and June 9, there were an average of 55 hospital admissions per day due to covid, an increase of 6% compared to the previous reference period, according to figures from the Institute of Sciensano public health updated Friday morning.



A total of 890 coronavirus-positive people are currently hospitalized, including 71 patients treated in intensive care (-7%).

Between June 1 and June 7, 1,357 new Sars-CoV-2 contaminations were detected on average per day, up 3% compared to the previous week.

Over the same period, 6.4 people died per day on average while they were carrying the virus (-2%), bringing the death toll to 31,816 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

Nearly 10,100 tests on average were also carried out daily, for a positivity rate of 15.3%.

The reproduction rate of the virus is 1.03. When it is greater than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to accelerate. The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 162 over 14 days.
