EBetween May 29 and June 4, 1,585 new Sars-CoV-2 contaminations were detected on average per day, up 21% compared to the previous week, according to figures from the Sciensano Public Health Institute released updated Wednesday morning.



Over the same period, 5.7 people died per day on average while they were carrying the virus (-9%), bringing the death toll to 31,799 since the start of the pandemic in Belgium.

Nearly 11,400 tests on average were also carried out daily, for a positivity rate of 15.2%.

Between June 1 and June 7, there were an average of 51.7 hospital admissions per day due to Covid, down 8% from the previous reporting period. A total of 943 coronavirus-positive people are currently in hospital, including 66 patients treated in intensive care.

The reproduction rate of the virus is 0.95. When it is less than 1, this indicator means that the epidemic tends to slow down. The incidence, which provides the number of new cases per 100,000 inhabitants, reached 176 over 14 days.
