F1 Azerbaijan: Verstappen and Pérez give Red Bull a double

Max Verstappen is the big winner of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix. The Dutchman is ahead of his teammate Sergio Perez and the Mercedes of george russell. Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes) and Rock Gasly (Alpha Tauri) complete the top 5. On pole, Charles Leclerc was forced to retire after an engine problem with his Ferrari.

The Mexican starts the race in the best possible way by overtaking the poleman from the first turn. The Ferrari driver is then reduced to a defensive role by countering the offensives of the world champion.

The first disaster for the Reds comes in the tenth round and the abandonment of the unfortunate carlos sainz, victim of a technical problem. The moment chosen by his teammate to return to the pits but the Italian mechanics lost a lot of time when refueling.

The Red Bulls then took the opportunity to take the first two places. Verstappen then passed Pérez, who did not show much resistance when he saw his teammate take the lead. The winner of the Monaco Grand Prix return to the pits. A stop also missed since it takes more than five seconds when putting on its hard tires. No worries, however, for the Dutchman who made a perfect save a few minutes later.

But the turning point of the Grand Prix took place on the twentieth lap and the retirement of Charles Leclerc after an engine problem in his Ferrari. Leader of the Grand Prix, the Monegasque wanted to stop the bleeding after four consecutive victories for the Austrian team… despite four poles consecutive races of the Ferrari driver. A few turns later, Kevin Magnussen (Haas) in turn retired after yet another engine problem for the Reds this weekend.

Red Bull then takes care of managing the end of the race well and achieving its third double of the season. Verstappen he won for the fifth time this season and kept the lead in the world championship with 150 points, 21 points ahead of Pérez and 34 points more than Leclerc.

See you next Sunday for the ninth round of the season in Canada.
