Facebook kills its “Portal” product line

The range has only been available since 2019, which Facebook has already abandoned due to lack of interest from the general public.

Clearly, times are not good for Facebook. This Thursday, we learned that the social network giant was nipping its connected watch project in the bud due to a budget restriction. We discover today, thanks to The Verge, that Facebook is now on the verge of shelving the Portal product line.

Portal connected screens make it very easy for users to interact with their Facebook and Messenger contacts. During the pandemic, the firm had focused its communication more around telework and meetings enabled by Portal products.

But despite this, the range will never have met with the expected success with the general public. According to a study by IDC, only 800,000 copies of Portal devices will have found takers. This does not even represent 1% of market share…
