Netflix releases a number of films and series in its catalog each week, without anyone noticing them or the platform officially announcing it. Ecran Large reviews the new features added by Netflix from June 17 to 23, 2022, films and series combined in a non-exhaustive list.
What are the films and series not to be missed this weekend on the streaming platform?
Available on Netflix – Duration: 1h58
What does it talk about ? In the near future, two inmates relive their past under the influence of emotion-altering drugs administered by a visionary warden. With Chris Hemsworth.
Why do you have to watch it? Because it’s the new film by Joseph Kosinski, the director of Tron: Legacyofoblivion and of Top Gun: Maverick. With its high-tech and design center which serves as its unique decor, Spiderhead stands out as a godsend for the filmmaker, a former architect obsessed with the symmetry of his staging.
Thanks to its elegant lines of flight and its pure geometric impulses, Kosinski makes his film a visually fascinating object, unfortunately weighed down by its poor script, which we owe to the duo of jobbers Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick (Deadpool, 6 Underground, Zombieland). Spiderhead becomes a two-headed film, raised by the paw of an increasingly fascinating directorbefore it’s the big comeback as soon as the characters open their mouths to talk about free will and the human condition like high school students.

Another mystery woman story
What does it talk about ? With overwhelming evidence against him, a young man named Hero finds himself framed for murder. During his trial, he tells an extraordinary story about the woman he loves, and how he risked everything to save her. But should we believe it?
Why do you have to watch it? If there is one thing to remember from the Depp-Heard scandal, it is that the trials have never been so popular and the series that have recently hit Netflix have not proven the opposite. After Anatomy of a Scandalit’s the turn of You Don’t Know Me to delight fans of murder stories and media affairs.
Adapted from the novel of the same name by Imran Mahmood, this new series therefore tells the story of a young black man who, when all the evidence accuses him of a murder, decides to circumvent justice and represent himself. Through many flashbacks, we discover the true story of Hero, who denies any accusation outright. Already broadcast on the BBC, You Don’t Know Me brings together a cast of emerging actors including, among others, Sam Adewunmi, in the lead role, and Sophie Wilde who plays the mysterious Kyra, the woman behind Hero’s misfortunes.

The power of images
What does it talk about ? Obsessed with his vintage suede jacket, a recently divorced man befriends a candid bartender under the guise of filming an independent film.
Why do you have to watch it? Quentin Dupieux releases films at an industrial speed, so much so that we end up confusing them with each other. But The deer remains one of the most unique. Before that, the filmmaker deployed absurd, totally offbeat universes, which the opening of Wrong and his alarm clock going from 7:59 a.m. to 7:60 a.m. But here, it’s the main character, portrayed by a brilliant Jean Dujardin, who seems out of place with his environment.
Enough to transform the director’s strange pranks into tongue-in-cheek study of human madness, even morbid obsession. The deer is probably the darkest of Dupieux’s feature films, even though it contains some tasty gags. If you liked his last essays, including the strange Iunbelievable but truecurrently in theaters, you should give it a try.

The LEGO Movie 2
On Netflix June 20 – Duration: 1h48
Henry Cavill before surgery
What does it talk about ? The adventures of Master Builder Emmet continue. When Lego Duplo aliens abduct Lucy and Batman, he must go into space to save them.
Why do you have to watch it? After ultra pop and fun The LEGO Great Adventure little fingerless toys are back in The LEGO Movie 2, set five years after the events of the first. Clearly below its predecessor, this new component has the merit of amusing, in addition to being a potpourri of references and a huge traveling advertisement.
We find there iconic characters like Batman, Wonder Woman, Superman but also the forgotten Green Lantern. If the valiant Chris Pratt is still behind the voice of Emmet, the new hero of the franchise, it is now Mike Mitchell (Shrek 4, there was an end, Alvin and the Chipmunks 3) who realizes. Clearly not the smartest film of its generation, LEGO 2 still has the merit of entertaining.
umbrella academy – season 3
On Netflix June 22 – Duration: 10 episodes of approximately 45min
What does it talk about ? After averting disaster in 1963, the members of the Umbrella Academy return to the present, convinced they’ve prevented the initial apocalypse and fixed the time continuum, once and for all. But after a brief moment of celebration, they realize things aren’t quite as they left them.
Why do you have to watch it? First, in order to release from the terrible cliffhanger on which the season ended 2, no less than two years earlier. Now back in their original time line, the whimsical Hargreeves siblings, whom the viewer will take great pleasure in finding, now find themselves confronted with the consequences of their multiple spatio-temporal upheavals. With its multiple characters with obvious sympathy capital, Umbrella Academy also offers a rich universe and a cosmic atmosphere which bring a bit of freshness to the contemporary serial landscape.
An eponymous adaptation of the comic book co-written by singer and artist Gerard Way and his sidekick author Gabriel Ba, this third season once again explores the pangs of family ties, and the complexity of questions of identity, all underpinned by a distinct aesthetic and narrative identity. And if this new burst of episodes clearly suffers from an overly dissipated narrative, the series remains a effective and visually thrilling entertainment.
