The start-up European Sleeper wants to operate an overnight train to Barcelona from Amsterdam, with stops in Antwerp and Brussels, according to a request sent to the Dutch Authority for Consumers and Markets (ACM) on Wednesday. Earlier this month, European Sleeper already announced that it wanted to offer night trains to the Alps and the south of France in collaboration with the Dutch tour operator Sunweb. The trip to Barcelona would be a summer extension of this offer.
Chris Engelsman, co-founder of European Sleeper, hopes the train will be able to run as early as next year or in 2024. The notification to the ACM already mentions a timetable from December 10, 2023, but the launch of the service could come earlier.
