The independence of Flanders proposed by Van Grieken “is not realistic”, according to Théo Francken

Théo Francken (N-VA) considered “unrealistic” what the president of Vlaams Belang wants, that is to say to declare independence which should then take effect in 2029 after negotiations with the French-speaking people.

LFormer N-VA Secretary of State Theo Francken violently attacks his successor on asylum and migration, Sammy Mahdi, in an interview with the newspaper on Sunday
From Zondag
. In particular, he describes Mahdi’s policy as a flop.

“Mahdi has already been sentenced 740 times this year for violating the right to asylum. If it had happened to me, it would have made the front page of all the newspapers. (…) With him it passes, ”fulminates Mr. Francken. “What did Mr. Mahdi do? He mostly spoke loud and clear. He said he would end the chaos. Me, I will remember him as the secretary of state with empty promises… can we read in the newspaper. According to Mr. Francken, the fact that Mr. Mahdi soon becomes president of the CD&V will not change anything in the file. Quite simply because the government does not want another migration model.

Moreover, what Tom Van Grieken (president of Vlaams Belang, editor’s note) wants (to declare independence which should then take effect in 2029 after negotiations with the French-speaking people, editor’s note), is unrealistic in the eyes of the N-VA deputy. “What does he imagine? That they are all going to panic in Namur, Charleroi or Brussels and suddenly want to negotiate with Vlaams Belang? No, they won’t. It won’t keep them from sleeping. They’ll just ignore it. »

In the interview, Mr. Francken also opposes possible reparations for the Congo and again pleads for an increase in the defense budget to 2% of GDP.
