After two successful films, the clown of That will come back again Welcome to Derrya series centered on the genesis of the clown.
If coulrophobia, the fear of clowns, is not new, Pennywise, also known as Pennywise, is most likely responsible for some of these irrational fears. Just four years after Stephen King’s 1986 novel came out, It: He came back, a cult mini-series in which the clown played by Tim Curry terrorized an entire generation.
But almost thirty years later, the nightmarish clown has returned to haunt our screens. In 2017 came out Thata brand new cinematographic adaptation by Andrés Muschietti which has known a phenomenal success and generated more than 700 million dollars in the world. The second part released in 2019, It: Chapter 2 enjoyed more modest success, but still grossed over $470 million at the worldwide box office. We can therefore say that the diptych was a huge success, and speaking of monsters… Pennywise is coming back again.
It is now official, the two films by Andrés Muschietti will be entitled to a prequel series on HBO. If the series was still just a rumor, screenwriter Shelley Meals (Chicago Med, Shadow and Bone: The Grisha Saga) posted on his Twitter account a photo of the writing room filled with the iconic red balloons with the following caption: “Day one for Welcome to Derry currently in the writing room! We’re all floating here”.

In addition to telling us that the writing has started well, Shelley Meals also revealed the title of this new series which will be called Welcome to Derrya not very enigmatic title which confirms that this new work will be interested to the origins of evil plaguing the city of Derry. According Collider, the series is set in the 1960s, before the formation of the Losers’ Club so before the events of That.

For the moment, we do not know if Bill Skarsgård will reprise his role or if it will be entrusted to a younger actor. We also don’t know if Welcome to Derry will take place over several years, but we are already shivering just at the thought of seeing a Pennywise as a child and already a murderer. While he’s supposed to reappear every 27 years, the series may show what he does in his free time besides rotting in the sewers.
Pre-production has just started, Welcome to Derry is not about to arrive on our screens. We know, however, that she will land on HBO Max in the United States and maybe by then the platform will also have arrived in France.
