Avatar: The Last Airbender will get three animated films, with the series creators in charge. What do we know about these projects?
The last air Master returns to our screens, and rather three times than once. Nickelodeon has just announced the development of three animated films under the Avatar banner. These projects, which should land in the next few years, will be produced by Bryan Konietzko and Michael DiMartino. The franchise creators will work alongside executive producer Eric Coleman.
On the production side, Lauren Montgomery was entrusted with the first project. The director is already rather familiar with the license since she created the storyboard for the third Avatar: The Last Airbender book for Nickelodeon. She also has solid experience in animation since she worked on Voltron : legendary Defender, Scooby Doo : Mystery HASassociated and The Justice League: New Generation.
Ramsey Naitowho serves as president of animation and development at Paramount and Nickelodeon welcomed this new collaboration.
“As original creators, Mike and Bryan are expanding the Avatar universe with us. We remain in the family with Lauren who will bring her expertise, her wonderful work with the original series when she directs one of the next films.“
A still mysterious plot
For now, the project is rather mysterious. No plot details have been shared yet. You will probably have to arm yourself of one little patience before learning more. The release date of the first film is also still kept secret. Nevertheless, Avatar fans should have something to feed their passion by then. Remember that Netflix is developing a series live action Avatar: the last air Master. The two creators are however not invested in this project.
As a reminder, Avatar: the last air Master follows the adventures of Aangsuccessor of a long line by Avatarsmasters of Four elements and his friends in their quest to save the world from the ruthless Fire Nation, and restore balance. It was broadcast on TF1 from 2005. A film was also released in 2010, directed by Mr. Night Shyamalan.
