What happened in the Belgian sky this Thursday? Residents of Houthalen surprised by a terrifying weather phenomenon! (video)

This Thursday afternoon, a meteorological phenomenon greatly surprised the inhabitants of Houthalen-Helchteren, in Flanders. A large whirlpool was seen in the sky and according to information from HLN, it never touched down.

It was therefore not a tornado, since “it is only when such a storm hits the bottom that you get a storm or a tornado”, specifies meteorologist Ruben Weytjens.

If the whirlwind had touched the ground, the consequences would have been disastrous. “In this case, we are talking about a waterspout. It looks like a tornado, but does not come from a supercell and has much lower wind speeds,” explains Ruben Weytjens.
