Zombies, myth or reality? In Haiti, they exist and pose a problem for society

Do zombies really exist? In Haiti, yes. But the cases listed do not look exactly like those we come across in the cinema…

Zombies made their appearance in Western popular culture in 1932, with American Victor Halperin’s film “White Zombie”. Little by little, they begin to appear everywhere: from the clip “Thriller” by Michael Jackson to the series walking dead, passing by “Scooby-Doo” or more recently “Zombie Child”. Sort of undead, aggressive and man-eating, they are above all very contagious. A man bitten by a zombie becomes a zombie himself, according to popular culture. But these stories of the living dead do not come out of the imagination of film and series directors. It would seem rather that they derive their origin from real facts, then fictionalized. Zombies do exist, or rather “zonbi”, as it is written in Haitian Creole.
